Bio

Over 20 years ago, a little short lefty would get his first break onstage to perform his first professional gig! Would also go on to pursue his dream as a drummer and play over 270 shows a year with musical styles such as  Blues, Country, Rock, Soul, Hip Hop, Latin and even Folk.

Luis Rodriguez got his first big break at age 8 when his fathers drummer was late running for a gig. Pressed for time his dad told him that it was time to shine and hop behind the kit. Though barely seeing his face over the kit, the crowd went wild! To his dad’s amazement went ahead and made him the bands fulltime drummer playing shows in the southwest for the next 10 years. Throughout this time he was involved in jazz and marching band earning several regional and state high school awards. By age 18, he had played well over 1,500 shows not only as a drummer but expanding his skills as a percussionist, bass guitarist, and even sound. Despite the hardships of road life at such a young age, Luis never lost his love for drumming or performing. After graduating high school, Luis was offered a month tour in Belgium with blues guitarist Tim Wheeler. However, he decided not to tour and continue to college to higher his music education. He went on to attend Tyler Junior College where he was involved in jazz band and marching band. There he joined “The Apache Punch Drumline” and marched center snare for 3 years. The advice and education  from his teachers and fellow musicians would help him become a disciplined drummer and percussionist while expanding his skills mental and physical.

From 2003 to 2008 he was on the road with Rich O' Toole, Gary Kyle, Annagrey, Manny Trevin, and Eddie Gonzalez. In 2010, Luis became the house drummer on the television show “Maseca en la Cocina Con Las Estrellas”. This popular Hispanic cooking show is a segment on Despierta America that features Latin artists cooking with Maseca products. He had the privilege of performing with artists such as Paulina Rubio, David Bisbal, and Jose Feliciano to name a few. Luis currently tours with Chant and Brian Carrion. When not on the road, Luis is recording studio sessions and playing Sunday mornings at Preston Trail Community Church in Frisco, TX.

Upcoming events on Luis’s roster include a Midwest Tour, Nashville showcase and an appearance at NAMM 2012. Until then, Luis will continue to give 110% at each show being as energetic and promising as his first!
